| QUOTE | It was interesting, really. As the sun began to trickle behind the mountains, far in the distance, he was ready to pull everything together. How was he so sure of a beginning at the end of a day? The time the sun dies, and its light is replaced by a poor, paler imitator. No, surely he would be expected to do this at the beginning, dawn, certainly, when everyone would be waking, and waiting. But that wasn't the time he was going to choose.
Where would everybody be? They'd -- Rhilu found it hard to use 'he' when it felt like he had had very little to do with anyone's migration -- managed to scrape together quite a few wanting in, and already he had come across quite a few of these. Perhaps finding a place to sleep, regrouping, meeting their fellows... it was so difficult for him to understand because, ironically, it felt like he had resided in Welkin Ravine for quite a long time. He had always thought of himself as a traveller, had never really belonged to a pack, or indeed, any place at all -- and yet he was finding it difficult to adjust. Had he become weak, gotten a soft spot for Oceanside? He grinned sardonically at himself for a moment, and then after a moment, pulled his head up and let out a deep howl, a call to all those who had decided to join him.
He really should practice that. But when would he have needed to do it before? Reimei had seemed an effortless leader; now there was little chance to learn from him, of course, but he could hardly curse himself for not watching the Aerkin's behaviour more closely. He was back again at the centre of the territory, or at least, what he considered the centre -- it wasn't exactly that geographically. It was a perfect place, really... perfect... oh, he was not getting nervous. He was so not. Not now. How unfitting would that be?
Agitatedly, Rhilu sat, then pushed himself back up again, circled once, and then sat again. Well, at least he wouldn't have to speak until whoever else had decided to hang around turned up. Would he be leading a bunch of misfits? Ex-Welkiners? Mental cases? This was going to be interesting, he decided, even as he settled into a stoic, guarded expression, crimson eyes perhaps betraying his restlessness as he waited. |
